We work in the lake district forests pretty much every day and our family has done so since 1935.

Ben Parker has seen the forestry practices and government policies in the lake district forests evolve over the years and has seen big changes in not only the management of the lake district, but in its appearance and the knock-on effects of these changes such as those we have seen in the recent flooding across cumbria.

The big upsurge in the use of wood burning stoves has meant that the demand for firewood is higher and so the pressures on the uses of the woodland have changed.

Ben will be talking more about his views on the government policy towards forestry in the Lake District and the possible reasons behind the impact of the flooding in the north west and how forestry upstream is very much linked to what happens downstream.
